The Eccolo range of wines are all made using Italian varieties and it is our hope to reflect this by creating wines which are savory and very food friendly. We are now releasing the Eccolo vintages listed below, which I am sure you will find excellent quality and value.
All the new releases have been reviewed by Winefront and in summary Gary Walsh wrote that ‘ These Eccolo wines balance the price/drinking pleasure/quality equation so nicely.’
2015 Eccolo Sangiovese (SOLD OUT) $25 per bottle
It’s vibrant in the glass – medium weight – looks like Sangiovese.
It’s intense – dark cherries; bitumen; and tobacco leaf – as savoury as it is fruit driven.
The intensity carries through to the palate, this is young and showing its primary best.
As the wine sees some air, it becomes more “classical” – fruit fades a little to show sinew and spice. Campari burnt orange and ripe red cherries and drive and length. A lovely path ahead of it, this is a wine you should re-visit every 6 months to enjoy its evolution. WF – 90+ points
2014 Eccolo Sagrantino $30 per bottle
Dark and brooding at its centre – brick red at its edges.
The nose shows leather; woodspice; thyme; and dried leaves. Plenty of bass notes, and all of them savoury.
This theme continues through the palate, with teases of dark berry fruits promptly silenced by even darker chocolate and tarry earth. The true sinew and chewy tannins of Sagrantino define the wine. It’s a classic example – a wine that wrestles with itself – more importantly, one that soars with food. WF – 93 points
2015 Eccolo SSS $25 per bottle
This is our new addition to the Eccolo range and is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Shiraz and 25% Sagrantino. Medium bodied, savoury and with a lovely fine length it is great with pasta or pizza and is aimed at complementing these foods.
