The Eccolo label is our new label specializing in Italian varietals. We have concentrated on two varieties from central Italy, Sangiovese and Sagrantino. We have planted both these varieties at Balhannah in the Adelaide Hills on the Bottin Vineyard.
With the Eccolo range we are not only making wines from italian varieties but we are endeavouring to make wines which are both savoury and food friendly which reflects the styles made from these varieties in Italy.
Sangiovese is the most important red variety in Italy, widely planted and the major grape variety of Tuscany and has been used to make some of Italy’s most important wines for centuries. Sagrantino, on the other hand, has only recently become an important player in Italian wines, recently being awarded DOCG status.
