Koltz “The Pagan” Wine Release

Once again it’s time for the release of our flagship wine ‘The Pagan’.
This time it is the 2016 vintage Koltz  “The Pagan”  and we are very happy with the wine.

It is a full bodied Pagan. Structured, quite defined and lively, and like all of “The Pagans” it will benefit greatly from several years in the cellar but will drink well now.

It was recently given 94 points from Gary Walsh of The Wine Front.
Our tasting notes are here on our webpage.
We have been able to keep the price the same as previous vintages, ie $50 per bottle and offer a 10% discount for orders of one dozen or more as well as including free postage to capital cities and equivalent areas.

In addition we have a great offer on  the 2017 Koltz DogDay Shiraz, which for this vintage, we used grapes only from our own vineyard and hence the wine is 100% Blewitt Springs.

It is a medium bodied wine with lovely fine structure, quite savory but also showing nice fruit and is a great wine to have with pizza or pasta, It recently received 92 points from Wine Front.
Normally $264 per dozen we are offering it at $240 per dozen with free postage
to capital cities and equivalent areas.

If you prefer you can mix the two wines in a dozen order.

You can download our Offer Order Form with this link

It will normally be found in your “downloads” folder. If not please phone or email me for a copy via email.

I hope you enjoy our latest vintage release.

2015 Koltz Pagan Release

Koltz Wines is very pleased to release the 2015 Pagan.

The 2015 Pagan is an opaque and concentrated wine which is both poised and complex on the nose. Liqueur cherries, cinnamon and cranberries show through.

Rounded and slippery on the palate, the tannins are integrated and there is a freshness to this Pagan.

The 2015 Pagan is quite approachable at this stage given its freshness yet it will live for many more years  and develop beautifully due to its  structure, balanced acidity and generous fruit.

A recent review from Gary Walsh of Wine Front gave the wine 95 points. Read his review with this link.

The 2016 Koltz Wizard and 2016 Koltz DogDay Shiraz are also available and if you wish you can mix and match as you wish.

We are offering 10% discount  on Pagan and Wizard for dozen orders and 20% on DogDay Shiraz. The offer also extends to mixed dozens and we will give free postage up to the value of $20.

Our Order Form is downloaded with this link .

The Link will take you to a separate page and you then need to again click on the smaller November 17 order form-2  text to start it downloading onto your computer. It will normally be found in your “downloads” folder. Of course you can always email me for a copy via email.

I hope you enjoy our latest vintage release.

New Eccolo Wines and 2016 Koltz DogDay Shiraz Wine Offer

The 2017 vintage is now virtually over with only the 2017 Sagrantino to press and some wines still to go to barrel. It was a good vintage, later than many of the recent vintages, giving the grapes time on the vine and the resulting wines are proving to be very good.

We have just released all of the new Eccolo vintages and also the 2016 Koltz DogDay Shiraz. Tasting notes for these wines can be found on our website www.koltzwines.com

All of the wines have recently been written up on Wine Front and received positive reviews. We were very pleased with Gary Walsh’s summary that  “These Eccolo wines balance the price/drinking pleasure/quality equation so nicely.”

For our loyal customers we have put together a special offer to showcase the Eccolo range and as well as offer the 2016 DogDay Shiraz at a great price.

The Eccolo mixed dozen offer is:

3 x 2016 Eccolo Chardonnay
3 x 2015 Eccolo Sangiovese
3 x 2015 Eccolo SSS
3 x Eccolo Sagrantino

RRP is $315 but our special offer is $260 and we will cover freight up to $20, which covers most areas of Australia.

We are also offering the 2016 Koltz DogDay, awarded 93 points by Wine Front, normally $264 per dozen, for only $230, covering freight up to $20 to reach most postal areas of Australia.

At present the only other wine still available is the 2014 Koltz Pagan which we would be happy to add to any order.

Koltz Dog Day Sangiovese Special Offer

Koltz 2013 Dog Day Sangiovese

The vintage has now finished and we are very pleased with both the quality and quantity of the wine produced. With the end of vintage we now have time to make a few changes within the Koltz and Eccolo wine brands.

We have combined the Koltz and the Eccolo brands under one umbrella and will now offer 3 wines under each label, all of which will be single vineyard wines.

Koltz Wines will be made from grapes from our McLaren Vale vineyard in Blewitt Springs and the wines will be comprised of  The Pagan, The Wizard and our new up market DogDay Shiraz.

Eccolo Wines will be made from grapes sourced from our vineyard in Balhannah. Eccolo comprises three wines, Eccolo Sangiovese, Eccolo Sagrantino and Eccolo Chardonnay.

As a result of this consolidation, we have stock of some wines that we will no longer be making, so we are offering our remaining 2013 Koltz DogDay Sangiovese, at a great price to our on-line customers. This wine received 91 points from Winefront.

Surprising pale garnet colour. Bright though. Perfume of red berries, meatiness, blackcurrant pastilles. Sort of sweet, sort of savoury. Crisp with fine, suede tannins. Tang of acidity finishes the wine fresh. There’s not a lot too it, but it feels great to drink, really easy to drink, built for cutting through charcuterie or the like; fresh fruited, anise spice, savouriness and satisfying with its tug of tannin and gentle pucker. It’s a very good wine for the price. ”

Normally $240 per case we are offering the 2013 Koltz DogDay Sangiovese at $170 including free delivery to capital cities.

You can also purchase 6 of the 2013 Koltz DogDay Sangiovese ( for $85.00 ) and add any 6 other wines from the Koltz or Eccolo range to make up  your dozen order and we will still offer our normal 10% discount on those 6 wines and well as free postage to capital cities.

Here’s the 2013 Koltz Sangiovese Wine Offer Order Form.

Alternative & Emerging Varietals Tasting

While there’s plenty of Shiraz, Cabernet and Chardonnay to be found in our grape growing regions, there are now more than 120 other grape varieties grown in Australia. So why now try something new ?

Eccolo Wines is having a tasting of our two Italian varietals along with many other producers of alternative varieties at the Apothecary in Hindley St, Adelaide on the Monday 19th October.

If you live in Adelaide this is a great chance to taste many alternative varieties, such as  Aglianico, Zweigelt, Blaufrankisch, Montepulciano, Graciano and Fiano to name but a few, all at one location.

Get the full details with the link below

It would be nice to see you there.

Three estate shiraz from our Blewitt Springs vineyard.

Pruning has now finished in the vineyard and the buds of the new season are beginning to open, heralding the new season. I always enjoy the onset of Spring with the warmer weather and longer days and watching the new vintage emerge only adds to this pleasure.

This year we are a little later releasing our 2013 Koltz The Pagan, which is our flagship wine, made in an amarone style as done in the Valpolicella region of Italy. The grapes were dried for 7 weeks and then fermented for 21 days producing an exciting wine with great complexity. Amarone wines are often described as ‘ vino di meditazione ‘ and are, as such, meant to be drunk at the end of the meal and with good company and conversation.

The Pagan is produced from shiraz grapes from our Blewitt Springs vineyard, where we also produce two other single vineyard shiraz wines, using different techniques. The 2013 Koltz The Wizard is made using the ripasso technique, also from Valpolicella, whereby the skins of The Pagan grapes are used to add complexity and structure to shiraz fermented earlier in the vintage. The 2014 Koltz Estate Shiraz is made using traditional methods of open fermentation and basket pressing. All wines are aged in French oak.

Officially this is our 2013 Pagan release but we are also offering all 3 shiraz wines as a set, so that people can try the 3 wines from the same vineyard, made using different techniques.

So why not try all 3 wines with a 10% discount offer. Either a 6 pack for $ 208.00 with 2 of each wine or a dozen  for $416.00 with 4 of each. Of course you can also order any quantity of “The Pagan Shiraz”, for $45/bottle and all dozen orders will be freight free to Capital Cities.
